Lesson-in-Marketing

If you have been to Las Vegas, especially to marketers, you probably know that it clearly depicts the essence of marketing. The new and old strips both convey that message. My wife and I went to Vegas and stayed at the Plaza Hotel located in the old strip. We learned a lesson in marketing that I would like to share with you.

If you ask me, I like the old strip better. I am still not comfortable with the modernistic and stylish feel of the new strip. We had a wonderful time strolling Freemont Street. On top of that, after dark, we saw large spectacular video screens everywhere. They are placed a great distance above the street and spread throughout the street until three blocks away. You can see at night some eye-catching videos playing on the screen with outstanding sound system. Describing what we have witnessed in words would not do justice to a view like that, it’s imperative you see it yourself!

You will be able to observe that there are various artists like musicians who are present on that street. However, there was someone who I really got to admire. He is a saxophone player and performs for passersby. His amazing talent playing the sax combined with great personality won the hearts of his audience.

My attention was especially piqued after his performance, wherein he was putting his CD’s up for sale for $15 each. Quickly, people reached out their money without any hesitation. I have to say, the saxophone player knew how to play his cards right.

That incident is a classic sample of Marketing 101. After observing the sax player for quite some time, I realized he knew what he was doing, what he lived to do. His talent emanated from within him and was directly recognized and appreciated by his spectators. It was very obvious, had he sold his CD’s for $10 more, he would definitely make the sale anyways.

The simple lesson here that every marketer should keep in mind is you should be able to find out and recognize your own abilities, talents and strengths and share these to people around you. Rest assured, they will give you something back in return. Marketing could not be any easier!
